FIGHT BACK AGAINST POSCO!!!

The POSCO's Legal Attack on Sammi Workers and Korean LaborNet

On the third of April, the POSCO, a Korean steel giant, applied for the injunction of using the design of Sammi workers' Anti-POSCO website (http://antiposco.nodong.net) to Seoul District Court. The POSCO claimed that the parody site obviously violates the property right of POSCO homepage design.

Last month Sammi workers organized two weeks' nation-wide caravan struggle for the reinstatement, visiting 25 cities and holding rallies. Arriving in Seoul on March 17, they held the protest rally in front of the government building. So far, they are dismissed more than three years, or 1, 200days.

However, the POSCO has denied the reinstatement of the dismissed Sammi workers, for past three years, by ignoring the decisions by local and central labor relations committee, the verdict of the High Court, the order by the National Audit Board, and the order of the President according to the agreement between the KCTU and the government. After every defeat, the POSCO appealed to higher institutions in order to prevent the trade union with the company.

At the moment, Sammi workers are continuing the struggle for jobs and union rights, waiting for the final verdict from the Supreme Court. And during March struggle, Sammi workers also initiated the international campaign with NodongNet or LaborNet Korea by launching the Anti-POSCO website (http://antiposco.nodong.net), both in Korean and English. It was composed as a parody site of the POSCO's.

Faced with this organized struggle, the POSCO started a legal action again. This attempt shows not only the POSCO's anti-labor and anti-union policy, but also the corporate attack on the freedom of expression on the cyber space. As is well known, there are lots of parody sites on the web, especially those of multinationals. But there was not any legal action against ant parody site.

For the Continued Struggle against the POSCO

It's time to step up the international campaign for Sammi workers against the POSCO. Sammi workers and LaborNet Korea will fight against the POSCO, not just for the job and union rights, but also the freedom of expression on the web.

Our Demands to the POSCO:

• Cancel the Application for the Injunction Immediately;
• Reinstate the Dismissed Sammi Workers Immediately;
• Respect Workers Rights and Freedom of Expression on the Web
