Petition To Oppose The Deportation Of Labor Videographer/Journalist Steve Zeltzer From Korea

On Friday November 12, 1999, labor videographer and journalist Steve Zeltzer was deported from Seoul, Korea. He was planning to speak and attend an international LaborMedia conference co-sponsored by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions.

He is not the first unionist who has been deported from Korea for speaking in defense of the democratic rights of the Korean trade union movement. He has already been supported by the Vice President of the Public Services International (PSI) representing public workers around the world.

We, the following trade unionists and supporters of democratic rights protest the deportation of Steve Zeltzer from Korea and the use of the National Security Act to repress the trade union movement and the independent film and video movement. We call for the release of the many trade unionists who are still in jail in Korea because of their labor activities.

We also call on Korean President Kim Dae Jun to end this exclusion of Steve Zeltzer and to support the abolishment of the undemocratic National Security Act.
