Strike in Mexico

On August 18th, 12,500 auto workers in Puebla, Mexico went on strike against Volkswagon. They are asking for a 21% "negotiable" increase.

The VW Company is demanding that the Secretary of Labor declare the strike illegal. The company is offering 5.5% which was rejected by the workers last Friday. The union originally demanded a 30% increase, but reduced it to 21%. At the same time, the union bureaucrats have already said they will negotiate an increase as long as it is not less than 10%.

90 other companies provide parts to VW in which 100 thousand workers are employed. Some of these companies have workers employed inside the VW plant itself.

This plant produces daily 1500 cars and 2000 motors. The company has an inventory of 12000 cars which will cover it for two weeks.
