Notice To All Members.

For Immediate release.- 14th December 2000.

Yesterday the Shop Stewards of the TGWU, AEEU, and MSF representing the Luton Plant met to discuss the unacceptable decision to close our plant.

They saluted the efforts of those people who rallied at Griffin House demanding to see the Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Nick Reilly.

They also commended the stance being taken by the local MP’s and received solidarity messages from as far away as Brazil.

It was unanimously agreed by the joint Shop Stewards that we should fight to defend our plant from closure and seek to create a European dispute with General Motors of Europe.

This is not a Luton problem, this is not a UK problem, this is a European problem.

The Company was also condemned for pushing out details of a separation / transfer package, which assumes that we are prepared to give away our jobs, and those of our children, forever.

We urge all members to ignore applications for separation or transfer and prepare to fight to keep our plant open producing Vectra and Epsilon as was promised in the last wage deal. A wage deal that was agreed by us all with Vauxhall management.

This is our plant, General Motors of Europe have given up the right to call it theirs, prepare yourself to defend our rights as car workers to a job in Luton doing what we do best, producing cars.

The Vauxhall car workers are proud people as are their families, and the community – none of us deserve to be condemned to the scrap heap.

REJECT THE PACKAGE AND DEFEND OUR JOBS AND OUR PLANT.

Bulletin No 2.
Issued on behalf of the Trade Union side of the Luton Plant JPC.
