Brazilian VW Workers Strike

RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug 11 (AFP)

An auto workers strike early Wednesday paralyzed assembly lines Volkswagen's plant here, a union official said. The union decided to strike to demand a salary adjustment in line with the inflation rate for the past 12 months. That rate was 4.57 percent, according to the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics. The workers also are pressing for a five-percent raise to match salaries of Volkswagen autoworkers at a Sao Paulo plant.
